Emancipation Day Celebration, Homecoming Services, Loudoun County Community Equity Forum, Old School Cruisers Cabaret

Emancipation Day celebration: Emancipation Day will be celebrated on Saturday, Sept. 19, at the Carver Community Center in Purcellville. It will be a fun-filled day of activities. Contact Reginald Simms at 540-338-2370 for more information.

Homecoming services: Mount Zion United Methodist Church will hold its homecoming services on Sunday, Sept. 20. The church is at 12 North St., Leesburg. Regular morning services will be held at 11, followed by lunch at 1:30 p.m. The afternoon service will begin at 3. Featured speaker will be the Rev. Arthur Holmes, former pastor of Mount Zion. Music will be provided by the Mount Zion Community Choir, led by LaPearl Smith. The homecoming theme is “You Can Always Come Home!”

Loudoun County Community Equity Forum: On Tuesday, Sept. 22, from 4:45 to 8:30 p.m., in recognition of the NAACP's 100th year, the Loudoun County Branch NAACP will hold a community forum on equity in Loudoun County at George Washington University, Virginia Campus (Room 101, 20101 Academic Way, Ashburn). Come and share your views of what equity should be in our county, ask questions, and get answers. The presenters include Beverly Bennett-Roberts, nationally recognized equity trainer and consultant; Paul C. Gorski, president-elect of the National Association for Multi-Cultural Education, assistant professor at George Mason University and founder of several equity organizations; and Jerry L. Hill, 30-year LCPS teacher and administrator, champion of equity in civic organizations throughout the county and principal of Ball's Bluff Elementary School. A light dinner will be served, and reservations are requested. Call Pam Taggart, NAACP Education Committee co-chairwoman, at 540-882-3663 by Sept. 18 to reserve your space.

Old School Cruisers Cabaret: The Old School Cruisers and Hardway Connection will present the Old School Cruisers Caberet on Saturday, Sept. 26, at Loudoun's newest entertainment center, AVCOM-Visual Arts Video Production Studios, 45965 Nokes Blvd., Suite 1150, Sterling. The dance will be held from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m., and tickets are $20 (advance) and $25 (at the door). For more information, call Larry Robinson at 703-628-9280.
