Motorcade route set for fallen soldier

Those wishing to pay their respects to fallen soldier Stephan Lee Mace, 21, of Purcellville, are asked to line up along the secondary roads of the motorcade.

Those roads are Sycolin Road between the Leesburg Executive Airport and the Rt. 7 bypass, Colonial Highway through Hamilton, and Main Street and South Nursery Avenue in Purcellville, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said.

Mace's body is scheduled to arrive at the airport at 8:28 a.m. Oct. 11.

Personnel from the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, the Leesburg Police Department, the Purcellville Police Department, the Middleburg Police Department and the Virginia State Police will then escort Mace's body to Hall Funeral Home in Purcellville.

The route will follow Sycolin Road to the Rt. 7 bypass and continue onto Route 7 westbound. The motorcade will then exit onto Charles Town Pike and then travel west on Colonial Highway through Hamilton and into Purcellville on Main Street, ending at Hall Funeral Home on South Nursery Avenue. Delays along this route should be expected, Troxell said.

Police are asking community members to not try and drive with the motorcade.

Mace's funeral is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 12 at Purcellville Baptist Church.

I was pleased that so many people rightly paid their respects to Stephan Mace and his family Sunday morning. We can never repay his family and Stephan.

Stephan's life and service to America/us should always be remembered. While others look for the benefits of living in America, Stephan took responsibility for defending our freedoms and security and representing America's interests.

I truly hope his family and friends ultimately find some comfort in knowing that people care.

With sincere appreciation,

Mike McPoland
