Local man dies in crash near Broadlands
A 23-year-old Ashburn man is dead and a 21-year-old Herndon woman is in critical condition after a single-car crash near Broadlands early Feb. 17.
Michael P. Howard was driving a 2004 Nissan Altima east on Broadlands Boulevard near Columbus Court at about 2:15 a.m., Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said.
Investigators believe Howard lost control while navigating a curve in the road. he car veered to the left, crossed the median and the westbound lanes of Broadlands Boulevard before striking a tree, Troxell said.
Howard died at the scene, and a passenger, Elizabeth Kissinger, was airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital. She is listed in critical condition.
Investigators believe speed was a factor, Troxell said.
