HCA Virginia plans to expand Reston Hospital Center

HCA Virginia announced Feb. 13 an accelerated plan to expand and enhance 187-bed Reston Center. As a first step, the hospital submitted a rezoning request for the RHC campus to the Fairfax County Department of Planning and Zoning.

"Our long-term expansion plans for Reston Hospital Center have been under development for two years,” said Margaret Lewis, President of HCA’s Capital Division and head of HCA Virginia. “Now, in the wake of the recent Broadlands Regional Medical Center decision, we will take full advantage of the opportunity to accelerate the project’s timetable.”

We’re tremendously excited about these plans and look forward to working with Fairfax County on their implementation,” said RHC president William Adams. "Our campus expansion will enhance the quality of life for patients, physicians and residents throughout the region and improve our ability to provide the highest-quality health care.”

The RHC project will enlarge the campus by 345,000 square feet and add 152 new medical-surgical and obstetrical beds to the hospital’s three existing patient towers. A new six-story medical office building will be built, 650 more parking spaces will be added, and the hospital’s surgical suite and Emergency Department will be expanded. With timely approvals from Fairfax County and the commonwealth, the project could begin in the next 3 to 5 years.

Earlier this month, Loudoun supervisors denied HCA Virginia’s special exception request for the 164-bed Broadlands Regional Medical Center.

Founded in 1986, Reston Hospital Center has 187 beds on a 15-acre campus. Altogether, the hospital and its medical office buildings have approximately 600,000 square feet of space.

HCA Virginia has hospitals, outpatient centers and physician practices in Central, Southwestern and Northern Virginia, including Reston Hospital Center, Dominion Hospital and outpatient surgery centers in Reston and Fairfax.

Construction has begun on Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, a 126-bed facility that will be located south of Fredericksburg.

Well, this news should make the Times, the NIMBYS', Route 50 people, and most of all, Inova and the BOS happy. No jobs, no revenue, no healthcare options, no hospital. Thanks a bunch, folks, we all get to pay the price for your selfishness.
