On Exhibit

Art galleries and exhibits are found throughout Loudoun and Fairfax. Here is a rundown of what is showing where and for how long. - 'Loudoun Landscapes.' Gallery 222, 222. S. King St., in Leesburg announces that "Loudoun Landscapes" will run Oct. 3 through Nov. 1.
There will be an opening reception Oct. 3, 6-9 p.m., during Leesburg's First Friday Gallery Walk.
This exhibit features works by Michael Beckner, Martha Cammack, Avis Fleming, Robbyn Holmes, Dell Keathley, Tia Maggio, Sarita Moffat, Kathy Riedel, Maggie Siner, Libby Stevens, Virginia Treviranus and Dan Williams.

Sikorska exhibit: The Loudoun Campus of Northern Virginia Community College will host an exhibit of mixed-media prints and drawings by Elzbieta Sikorska, of Silver Spring, Md., through Oct. 17 in Waddell Art Gallery.

The campus is at 1000 Harry Byrd Highway in Sterling, and the gallery is open 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Weeks exhibit. The works of watercolorist Doris Weeks and her students will be on exhibit through Oct. 31 at the Middleburg Library at 101 Reid St., Middleburg.

This exhibit is a preview of the third annual charity show and sale, which will be held Sunday, Oct. 19, 4-6 p.m. at the Middleburg Community Center, to benefit the center. Call 540-687-5730 or 540-687-6373.


'Rural Culture on the Edge.' A photo exhibit, "Rural Culture on the Edge" with works by Jim Hanna, is on exhibit through Oct. 31 at the Loudoun County Government Center, 1 Harrison St., Leesburg.

Hannah's works offer a sampling of images depicting Loudoun's rural ecology and heritage. The exhibit also offers a glimpse into such efforts as ecological stewardship, historic preservation and restoration, and sustaining a rural economy.  Hanna lives and works in western Loudoun County. His photos have been recognized in a variety of juried shows and displayed in recent solo exhibits at the Thomas Balch Library, George Washington University and the Washington-Dulles International Airport.  The exhibit, presented by Gallery 222 and the Loudoun Academy of the Arts Foundation, is on the first floor in Gallery One.

Werder photography exhibit. The photographs of Northern Northern Virginia photographer Lillis Werder are on exhibit at Washington Dulles International Airport through December. Two series of works by the artist are on display, on the themes of Washington, D.C., War Memorials and Venice, Italy.

The exhibit, coordinated by Gallery 222 and the Washington Metropolitan Airports Authority, is the fifth in the program's rotating series of displays. The photographs are installed in the area beyond the security checkpoints in the Main Terminal on the Arrivals Level.  Werder specializes in European architecture, landscapes, open-air markets, animals, florals and historic sites near her home in Northern Virginia.

Thompson exhibit. An exhibition of paintings by local painter Dana Thompson is running through January at the Prudential Carruthers office at 4 E. Colonial Highway in Hamilton.

Thompson is an award-winning painter in oils and retains studio space at King Street Studios. She also is an illustrator in pen and ink architectural renderings and graphite pencil drawings.

She is a member of the Loudoun Sketch Club and the Loudoun Arts Council.

Thompson has won numerous state and national awards in advertising, marketing and printing. She is a former artist and designer with the Loudoun Times-Mirror. Currently, she is the director of the Loudoun Academy of the Arts in Leesburg.

Thompson creates representations of organic and inorganic objects next to one another in dramatic compositions and has used the phrase "Vintage next to vegetation" to describe her work. She shoots for compositions that are larger than life, tightly cropped or taken to the edge, almost to the point of uncomfortable.

Thompson's works are in exhibits at Gallery 222, The Art League Gallery, Loudoun County Government Building, The Gallery Two at 222, Aldie Mill Art Show & Sale, Burwell-Morgan Mill Art Show & Sale, and the Waterford Fair. An article was published in March 2007 élan Magazine, Loudoun edition, featuring her and her works.
