Public can speak on Dominion rate increase

Dominion Virginia Power has applied to the state to raise its rate for electricity, effective July 1.

If the request is approved, the bill to a Dominion customer who uses 1,000 kilowatt hours will increase by $16.61.

Dominion, in its filing with the State Corporation Commission, says the increase is driven by the rising cost of the fuels it uses to generate electricity.

The commission will hold a public hearing on the request June 24 at 10 a.m. at its second-floor hearing room in the Tyler Building in downtown Richmond (1300 E. Main St.).

Go to scc.virginia.gov/case for instructions to access the Webcast of the public hearing.

The commission will accept written comments for the record through June 19. Submit online at the commission's Web site (above), and click on "Public Comments/Notices" and then "Submit Comments" to case number PUE-2008-00039. Comments (refer to PEU-2008-00039) can be mailed to Clerk of the State Corporation Commission, Document Control Center, P.O. Box 2118, Richmond, VA 23218-2118.
