Spartan boys, Pride girls win track titles

The Broad Run Spartans and Heritage Pride claimed team championships at the Dulles District track and field meet May 14-15 at Heritage High School.

Broad Run collected 150 points in the boys' events, 20 better than runner-up Potomac Falls. Heritage accumulated 124.5 points on the girls' side to finish 13.5 points ahead of Park View.

Three female athletes won multiple individual events at the meet. Dominion's Jennifer Weatherly paced the field in the 100-meter dash (12.36), 200 dash (25.26) and 400 run (57.29).

Park View's Natalie Baird showcased her dynamic ability in the throws once again, winning the discus (153 feet, 1 inch) and shot put (42-6). Brooke Thompson of Broad Run also won two events, placing first in the 100 hurdles (15.99) and 300 hurdles (47.0).

Potomac Falls' Josh Hardin and Alex Hogue, Loudoun County's John Lewis and Broad Run's Rashawn Hugg claimed two individual titles each on the boys' side.

Hardin won the 1,600 run (4:31.89) and 3,200 run (9:49.12), while Hogue turned the daily double in the long jump (20-9.25) and triple jump (42-5.5).

Lewis crossed the finish line first in the 100 dash (11.1) and 110 hurdles (14.78). Hugg helped the Spartans win the team championship with his victories in the 200 dash (22.58) and 400 run (50.12).

Along with Hugg's strong meet, Broad Run's boys also won the 1,600 relay. Eric Hiatt, Kevin Clark, Eric Nelson and Terry Taylor completed the race in 3:28.93.

The Spartans' Didier Saidi cleared 6-5 to win the high jump, while Sam Saidi was second in the high and long jumps, and third in the triple jump. James Escano won the shot put (45-9) and was runner-up to Park View's Shehzaib Usman (139-11) in the discus.

Jazlynn Finney was one of several Pride girls to deliver a stout performance. Finney won the long jump (16-10.5), placed second in the 200 dash and was third in the 100 dash.

Finney also ran a leg on Heritage's winning 400 relay team. Kenice Brown, Emma McLaughlin, Bria Nunley and Finney completed the run in 50.29. The Pride's foursome of Devon Anderson-Farmer, Hannah McLaughlin, Angie Cerimele and Brown also won the 1,600 relay in 4:03.05.

Nunley placed first in the triple jump (35-9). Anderson-Farmer (100 hurdles and high jump), Hannah McLaughlin (400 run) and Brown (300 hurdles) each delivered runner-up finishes.
