Varsity rewind: May 13 games

Boys' soccer

Stone Bridge 2, Madison 0: Nick Giffen had a big night for the Bulldogs in the Liberty District quarterfinal game, picking up a goal and an assist. Sam Boysen scored his second goal of the season, and Mike Herndon and Chris Karvatz had assists. Matt Miscione made three saves to record his seventh shutout of the season.


Baseball

Potomac Falls 6, Briar Woods 2: The Panthers scored five runs in the third inning to remain tied for first place in the Dulles District. Brian Griffin and Mike Detaranto each pitched three innings, and Jacob Kline tossed the final frame for Potomac Falls. Chris Pelto delivered a two-run single in the third.

Heritage 13, Loudoun County 3: Nick Clayton drove in five runs and Andrew Zarobila added four RBIs for the Pride. Zarobila also earned his fourth win this season on the mound, allowing one run.


Softball

Loudoun County 14, Heritage 2: Lindsey Packard and Hannah Person combined for the pitching win, allowing only six hits. The Raiders pounded out 18 hits and stole eight bases. Rochelle Latka was 5 for 5 at the plate with four RBIs and three steals.

Park View 12, Freedom 0: Laura Heironimus pitched a one-hit shutout, walking one and striking out 14 as the Patriots won their home finale.  Felicia Price had a big game at the plate, going 4 for 5 with two triples, two runs scored, two RBIs and two stolen bases.

Briar Woods 2, Potomac Falls 1 (8 inn.): Sophomore Caitlin Blalock delivered a two-out single in the top of the eighth inning to plate the winning run, and Kate Fowler worked out of a jam in the home half of the frame as the Falcons won for the sixth time in their last seven games. Fowler and Panther freshman Heather Keifer turned in strong outings in the pitching circle. The two combined for 27 strikeouts, with Fowler fanning a school-record 14 and Keifer whiffing 13.
