By Kathie Felix

State of the art: A group of Northern Virginia’s most talented physical therapy professionals have moved after several years on Ridgetop Circle to set up shop across the street from Gold’s Gym in Ashburn. The p.t. team includes Art Bronsord, Sherry Moran, Michelle McGregor, Anne Cederle, Shantelle McLellan and Charlotte Passman, operating under the new name of State of the Art Physical Therapy. The company, owned by Art Bronsord, is located at 20098 Ashbrook Place, Suite 190. The new facility is spacious, light and airy -- and is set up as an environmentally friendly “green” business.  Call 703-723-5225.

Debate heroes: Potomac Falls High School came in at second place and Dominion High School placed fifth in the Group AA Debate Tournament held in Lynchburg at the end of April. Jack Kelly of Potomac Falls placed second in the state in Lincoln-Douglas debate. Michael Scott of Dominion placed third in Student Congress. Jillian Bizal and Sammy Dorman of Potomac Falls won the Contemporary Policy division. Jillian Bizal also took second in the speaker award. The Dominion team of Steve Brunner and Saad Khan placed third in Classical Policy.

Your input, please: A community survey and existing conditions report for the Potomac and Sterling communities are available online at www.loudoun.gov/potomac-sterling. The survey and report also are available in hard copy editions at the Cascades Library, Sterling Library and Claude Moore Recreation Center. Completed paper surveys will be picked up at these locations on a regular basis. For more information, call the Loudoun County Planning Department at 703-777-0246.

Bike to Work: The Loudoun County Office of Transportation Services hosts the local celebration of Bike to Work Day on May 16. One of the county’s two pit stops along the W&OD trail will operate at Orbital Science Corp. in Sterling 6:30-9 a.m. The stop will offer free food, giveaways and an opportunity to win raffle prizes, including new bicycles. Not too far away, a pit stop for AOL employees will be set up at the company’s Dulles campus. Call 703-737-8044.

Yard sale countdown: This is the countdown week for spring cleaners who are planning to participate in the annual Cascades community yard sale. The sale takes place May 17, 8 a.m.- noon. The rain date is May 18, 8 a.m.-noon. For information, call the Cascades Community Association at 703-406-0820.

Safety picnic: CountrySide’s eighth annual pool safety picnic takes place at the Lindenwood Pool on May 17, 1-4 p.m. The event includes pool safety demos and free pizza and drinks. A valid CountrySide amenities pass is required for attendance.

Farmers market: The Cascades Farmers Market is open for business on Sundays in the parking lot of the Senior Center at Cascades Marketplace. Drop by on May 18 between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. For information, check out www.loudounfarmersmarkets.org.

Susan’s quilts: The CountrySide Quilters will be treated to a trunk show by long-time member Susan Reiss, an extremely talented and prolific stitcher, on May 20 at 7:30 p.m. at the Community Lutheran Church in Cascades. Bring a nonperishable food donation for the church’s LINK pantry and expect to be dazzled by Susan’s handiwork. For information, call 703-450-2139.

Paper ships: The Cascades Women’s Book Club meets May 20 at 7 p.m. at O’Faolain’s Irish Pub to discuss “A Ship Made of Paper” by Scott Spencer. If this meeting is anything like the last meeting, you can plan on a wide-ranging discussion, a good dinner and a chance to eat dessert with friends. New members are very welcome.
