Governor's Awards: The deadline is May 15 for nominations for the Governor's Awards for the Arts 2008.
Forms to submit to the Virginia Commission for the Arts are available online at www.arts.virginia.gov. The winners will be announced Aug. 1, and Gov. Tim Kaine will present the awards in Richmond in September.
These awards have been presented only three times in Virginia. Nominees must be native Virginians or current residents; businesses and organizations must currently operate in the state.
Jeffrey Stern, manager of the Franklin Park Arts Center, will serve as area coordinator for Loudoun and Fauquier counties.
The Governor's Awards are administered by the Virginians for the Arts Foundation, and former First Lady of Virginia Jeannie Baliles is serving as the commonwealth chair.
Round Hill Arts Center: The Round Hill Arts Center is taking entries for "A Little Art Show," an art exhibit and sale of small works that will take place July 11-Aug. 30.
The entry deadline is 5 p.m. Thursday, July 3.
Proceeds from the show support programming at the nonprofit Round Hill Arts Center.
This exhibit is open to all professional, amateur and high school/college student artists living within a one-hour drive of Round Hill. Artists must be able to hand-deliver and pick up their work by the specified deadlines. All entries must have been completed within the last two years.
Entry specifications:
Work must be a maximum size of 12 by 12 inches, framed and ready to hang (no saw-tooth hangers).
All work will be hung on the walls. No tabletop work will be accepted.
Each artist may submit up to four pieces.
Two-dimensional work will be accepted in painting, printmaking, drawing, mixed media, photography, glass, textiles, ceramics, wood and metal.
Conditions:
All work must be for sale. Artists whose work sells will be paid the sale price less 25 percent commission.
All work will be accepted unless deemed inappropriate for display in the center's gallery. RHAC reserves the right to exclude any entry that presents complications for installation or is improperly prepared for hanging.
Delivery and fee: Work must be hand-delivered June 25-28 or July 2-3, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. No submissions will be accepted by mail.
Deliver to Round Hill Arts Center, 6 W. Loudoun St., Round Hill.
All entries must be accompanied by a $20 per artist entry fee. Make checks payable to Round Hill Arts Center. Entry fees are nonrefundable.
Artists may include an exhibit history or artist's statement.
Unsold work should be picked up Sept. 3-6, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Unsold work that is not picked up by Sept. 6 will not be stored and will be subject to disposal.
Checks for sold work will be mailed by Sept. 30.
