DSW opens in Dulles
DSW opened a store in the Dulles 28 Center on April 28. The discount designer shoe store is located in the new shopping center at the Route 7/Route 28 intersection.
Dulles 28 Center also holds Wegmans, Target, and numerous restaurants and other retailers.
Go Bananas, No. 2
Go Bananas, a children's toy boutique store, will open a second location in Lansdowne Town Center in June.
Go Bananas currently has a location in Brambleton.
Lauten gets approval
Robert Lauten, owner of Purcellville-based Lauten Construction, was recently given approval by the commonwealth of Virginia’s Department of Historic Resources for a substantial tax credit for historic renovation work on the building at 131-133 E. Main St.
The property, which now houses Lauten Construction, was formerly an antique store, an inn and boardinghouse, and also served as a stagecoach stop. It was originally the home of Valentine V. Purcell, the town’s first postmaster.
Lauten Construction Company’s services consists of detailed renovation work on historic properties, as well as general remodeling.
Scott Long builds garage
Chantilly-based Scott Long Construction was awarded the contract to build a 310,000-square-foot parking garage at Inova Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax.
The project will consist of five levels and 950 parking spaces.
Credit union opens
Apple Federal Credit Union has opened a second Loudoun County branch in Ashburn Town Center, 43330 Junction Plaza.
The credit union has another location in Sterling at 21361 Gentry Place.
Dulles Case Center
Dulles Case Center, a dealer that stocks Pelican Protector cases and lights, has opened near Washington Dulles International Airport at 22977 Eaglewood Court, Dulles.
Dulles Case Center holds complete inventory of Pelican-brand cases for equipment, electronics and weapons. Design staff can also fabricate custom foam interiors.
Orbital launches Pegasus
Dulles-based Orbital Sciences Corporation announced April 16 that its Pegasus space launch vehicle successfully launched the U.S. Air Force's Communications/Navigation Outage Forecasting System satellite into orbit.
The mission was the 25th consecutive successful mission for the Pegasus program since 1997 and the 39th overall flight of the company's air-launched system since its introduction in 1990.
Pegasus is the world's leading launch system for the deployment of small satellites into low Earth orbit. Its patented air-launch system, in which the rocket is launched from beneath Orbital's “Stargazer” L-1011 carrier aircraft over the ocean, increases performance, reduces cost and provides customers with unparalleled flexibility to operate from virtually anywhere
on Earth with minimal ground support requirements.
Leesburg Open Arms
Leesburg Open Arms, a Christian Development Center, held a dedication ceremony for a new facility April 27 at 818 S. King St., Leesburg.
Doors for the 13,000-square-foot center are scheduled to open Sept. 2. The center is for children ages 6 weeks to 12 years of age, and will include webcams in every classroom, secured entries, before- and after-school care and a 15,000-square-foot playground.

Federal contract awarded
Image Matters LLC, a provider of IT solutions and professional services, announced April 24 that it was awarded an Information Technology Schedule 70 contract by the U.S. General Services Administration, the procurement arm of the federal government.
The five-year contract streamlines the ability of federal customers to purchase Image Matters advanced IT consulting, systems development and other IT-related services, and continues the firm’s expansion into the federal marketplace.
