Daycare managers charged with failure to report child abuse

Three managers at a daycare facility were charged last week with failure to report suspected child abuse or neglect, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said.

Linda E. Smith, 53, of Reston, Estrella Levy, 35, of Dumfries, and Adrienna Ballato, 28, are accused of knowing about possible child abuse at the KinderCare Learning Center on Waxpool Road in Ashburn on Jan. 15.

Police say a third-party witness reported seeing a teacher shake a toddler. Smith, Levy and Ballato are accused of being made aware of the situation but not informing the Loudoun Sheriff’s Office or Child Protective Services as required by law.

Smith, Levy and Ballato were charged April 28.

The charge is an unclassified misdemeanor and is punishable by a fine up to $500.
