Cat neutering clinic

No more accidental and neglected kittens: That's the long-term goal of Casey's House, a private cat-rescue shelter in Bluemont.

Cindy Ingram and her Casey's House are sponsoring a "get that tomcat neutered" clinic May 17. Drop off male cats (must be friendly) from 6 to 7 p.m. at Casey's House, 161 Pine Grove Road, Bluemont, and pick them up the following evening. The cost for neutering is $20 and includes a rabies shot.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 17 is the annual garage sale to raise money to help pay for Casey's House. Donations are welcome: Drop them off under the carport or call Ingram to arrange pickup. Everything is welcome except clothing.

Ingram traps feral cats that have been born without homes or have been "dropped off" under the bridge over the Shenandoah not far from her home. She gets them neutered and returns the ones that will never adapt to life with humans to the wild, where other volunteers make sure they have food and shelter.

Every tomcat neutered means fewer kittens born unwanted and unhoused, fewer abandoned, hungry, cold cats eking out a living under the bridge.

It all started when Ingram befriended a neglected cat several years ago. That cat, Casey, died of kidney failure, but inspired Ingram to convert her garage to a shelter for those cats no one else will care for.

Later this spring, Casey's House will sponsor a sterilization/spay clinic for female cats.

Call Ingram at 703-220-9965, or 540-955-6348 for more information or to get on the May 17 surgery schedule.
