Boys' lacrosse: Pride comfortably defeat Vikings

The Heritage Pride boys' lacrosse program added another layer of foundation to their program's development with a 16-6 victory versus traditional power Loudoun Valley March 25 in Purcellville.

The Pride, champions of the 2007 Dulles District tournament, ran their record to 2-0, while Valley stands at 0-1.

The Heritage boys' lacrosse program has seen its win total increase each year since its first season in 2003, when they were winless. The Pride claimed 15 victories in 2007, securing a berth in the Region II tournament.

Jason "Choppy" Burke, Heritage's head coach since its second season, employs the motto "Do Work" for his squad.

"If we continue to practice hard to gain consistency on offense while improving our intensity and mental awareness defensely, we should be in the hunt for the [Dulles] regular season and tournament titles," he said.

Heritage's Russell East and Dean Stambules scored four goals apiece in Tuesday's win. Tyler Blevins and Nick Cadwell added two tallies each and Bryan McCarthy dished out three assists. Tyler Barton stopped 23 Valley shots on goal.

The Vikings, in their first contest under new coach Jeff Lewandowski, received two goals each from Kirby Zook and Chris Daddio. Sean Dacey contributed a goal and an assist.

Valley, members of the Group AAA Cedar Run District, will look to rebound March 27 against Loudoun County.

Heritage challenges itself again with another AAA foe when they host Culpeper March 31.
