Duncan's turn to shine

Park View High School senior Robbie Duncan will follow in his grandfather's footsteps as an athlete at Old Dominion University in Norfolk.

Duncan, a three-year varsity starting lineman for the Patriots, has accepted a preferred walk-on offer at Old Dominion, which will field a football team in 2009 for the first time since 1940.

Duncan's grandfather, Bobby Hoffman was a co-captain for the Monarchs basketball team from 1960-1962. Hoffman led Old Dominion to a 33-7 record in his final two seasons and completed his career with 1,047 points.

Hoffman was inducted into the Old Dominion University Sports Hall of Fame in 1997. Duncan's parents, Robin and Randy, also graduated from Old Dominion.

Duncan, a first team All-Dulles District lineman as a junior and senior, is expected to play on the offensive line for the Monarchs, possibly at the tackle position.
