Archeology foundation recognized
The Loudoun County Board of Supervisors honored the Loudoun Archaeological Foundation March 3 for its contributions to the county.
In a resolution of support, Supervisor Kelly Burk (D-Leesburg) praised the group for the work it did in conjunction with Loudoun's 250th anniversary last year and as part of Leesburg's 250th this year.
David Clark, executive director of the archaeological foundation, said he was pleased the topic is getting more attention.
"It's exciting because the whole thing starts at a grassroots level," Clark said, "but then it trickles up from the city to the county and to the state."
For the past 10 years, Clark has conducted professional archaeological and historical research in Loudoun County.
In honor of the county's 250th anniversary last year, he and his team hosted several public digs and gave the community the chance to look at artifacts found all across the county.
This year, he hopes to encourage even more interest and participation from the community, including Leesburg town officials.
"We are the vehicle [for archaeology]," he said, "but if you live here, this is your history. It is the community's history."
