Police and fire briefs

The following news happened in Loudoun's public safety fields throughout the week.

Fire damages mobile home in Leesburg

A fire early July 9 caused about $40,000 to a mobile home in the Leesburg Mobile Park.

At about 3 a.m., the Leesburg Police Department reported a fire at 53 Leesburg Mobile Park, Loudoun County Fire-Rescue spokeswoman Mary Maguire said.

Fire-Rescue personnel responded and got the fire under control within 10 minutes. No one was home. Neighbors said the residents were out of town, Maguire said.

The Loudoun County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause, Maguire said.

Checkpoint results

Two drivers were arrested for driving under the influence during a sobriety checkpoint July 11 in Sterling.

The checkpoint was held at the intersection of Route 606 and Shaw Road, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said.

Of the 1,171 vehicles that drove through the checkpoint, 39 were pulled over for further screening. Two drivers were charged with DUI, two juveniles were charged with underage possession of alcohol, and 11 other drivers were charged with driving without a license, Troxell said.
