Water stolen in Lovettsville

The Town of Lovettsville is asking residents to be on the lookout for people stealing water from fire hydrants around town, Mayor Elaine Walker said.

During the week of June 30, water was stolen from a fire hydrant in New Town Meadows. According to Lovettsville's Water and Sewer Ordinance, it is illegal for anyone other than water system operators, town staff and firefighters to access a fire hydrant, Walker said.

Those who illegally take water from the fire hydrants around town will be fined $500, Walker said.

Any resident who sees someone who does not look like authorized personnel taking water from a fire hydrant is asked to call the town office at 540-822-5788 during Loudoun County Sheriff's Office business hours, or to call the mayor or any council member when the town office is closed.
