Park View selects Koscinski as next hoops coach

Park View High School has named Mike Koscinski head coach of its varsity boys' basketball team.

Koscinski will retain his current position as physical education teacher at Newton-Lee Elementary School. He spent the last three seasons as an assistant coach at Briar Woods High School, a third-year program that won three games during that span.

Koscinski replaces Jeff Schneider, who resigned in June after guiding the Patriots to a 16-7 record last winter. Schneider accepted a teaching position in North Carolina.

“I’m taking over a team in a totally different situation here,” Koscinski said. “At Briar Woods, it was a building process. At Park View, I feel like I am taking over a team that is ready to compete.”

Park View finished with a 10-4 record in the Dulles District last season, tying Potomac Falls for second place. While they are losing nine seniors off that squad, Koscinski is excited to take the reins.

“This team is going to defend. Our number one emphasis this upcoming season will be to protect the basket,” Koscinski said.

“Offensively, I’ll let my players play, and we will push the basketball when we can. We will be an attacking team on both ends of the floor. We are going to compete from day one and we are going to compete at the top of the district.”
