Horne, Mims make short list for Va. Supreme Court vacancy

The Virginia Bar Association has listed Loudoun County Circuit Court Judge Thomas D. Horne and Virginia Deputy Attorney General William C. “Bill” Mims as possible replacements for Virginia Supreme Court Associate Justice Steven Agee.

Agee has been appointed to serve as a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit. Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine asked the Virginia Bar Association to recommend replacements.

Among those possible replacements are Horne, who has served as served as a judge for the 20th Judicial Circuit of Virginia since 1983, and Mims, who represented Loudoun and Fairfax counties in the Virginia State Senate before being named deputy attorney general in 2005.

The other people listed are judges Joanne F. Alper, Walter S. Felton Jr., D. Arthur Kelsey, LeRoy F. Millette Jr., R. Terrence Ney and Clifford R. Weckstein.

No date has been given for when Kaine will make the final decision.
