School starting, senior cookout, church barbecue, register to vote
By Chuck and Marianne Barrick
School starting: We have had several calls about the opening day of schools. Schools in Loudoun County will begin their new school year on Sept. 2. If you are a new student at Park View High, there will be orientation on Thursday, Aug. 28, beginning at 6:30 p.m. For more information please call 571-434-4507. If you questions concerning other local schools, their information is in the local directories.
Senior cookout: The Senior Center is hosting an End of Summer cookout on Sept. 5 from 4-6:30 p.m. The theme for the cookout is "Goin' to the Drive-In." The menu will include hot dogs, burgers, baked beans, corn on the cob and root beer floats for dessert. Sky Dantinne will provide music from the '40s, '50s and 60s. A special prize will awarded to the best-looking "Frankie & Annette" look-alikes. Sound like fun. Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door and nonmembers.
Church barbecue: The St. Joseph's Annual Bar-B-Que is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6, from 1:30-6 p.m. For more information, please call 703-437-3737.
Register to vote: We want to remind you that the last day to register for the presidential election on Nov. 4 is Oct. 6. For questions concerning registration or to register, please call 703-777-0380.
Celebrations: Happy birthday to Jack Veit, David Anderson, Eve Terry, Leo Morin, Tom Fischetti, Frank Woods, Francisco Funes, Janet Viands, Larry Matheny, Margaret Bennett and Donnie Baxter. That's a lot of candles, cake and ice cream. Happy 45th wedding anniversary to Gary and Josie on Aug. 31.
Have a great, safe and enjoyable Labor Day Holiday.
