School open houses, a concert and a movie at the pool

School open houses: The first day of school for Loudoun County Public school students is Tuesday, Sept. 2! Several open houses and opportunities to pick up school schedules are available. Freedom High School will hold orientation for all students Thursday, Aug. 28. Freshmen should arrive by 11:30 a.m.; upperclassmen at 1:30 p.m. Schedules and school supply kits are available for Mercer students Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.; sixth-grade staff members will be available Thursday, Aug. 28, from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. to meet students. Hutchison Farm will hold open house Friday, Aug. 29. Liberty Elementary will hold open house Thursday, Aug. 28, from 10 to 11 a.m. for morning kindergarten, and from 11 a.m. to noon for afternoon kindergarten. Additionally, open house for grades 1-5 will be held Friday, Aug. 29, from 1 to 3 p.m. Little River Elementary will hold open house for all students Friday, Aug. 29, from 9 to 9:30 a.m. for morning kindergarten, 9:30 to 10 a.m. for afternoon kindergarten, and 1 to 2 p.m. for grades 1-5. Please refer to the individual school Web pages for specific information on open houses, orientations and back-to-school night.
Concert: The summer concert series is winding down. This Friday, Aug. 29, join family and friends on the town green for the reggae sound of Jah Works. This band’s mix of Jamaican music and culture will surely have you dancing. The concert event is free from 7 to 9:30.
Movie at the pool: Saturday night, enjoy “National Treasure: Book of Secrets” while floating in the pool. This free movie starts around 8:30 in at the new South Riding pool. Bring your favorite flotation device, friends and family and have a great movie night.
