Fall Festival, garden gifts, school time and post office news

By Betty Shiflett

Fall Festival: Set aside Saturday, Oct. 18, for some (additional) fun here in Paeonian. The Paeonian Springs Council is planning the Fall Festival for that day. New this year will be a yard sale. There is live music planned, a 50/50 raffle and drawings for goodies from local merchants. There will be hay rides, horseshoes and games for kids of all ages. The festival will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Hackneys' field.

Garden gifts: We are enjoying the tomatoes from Corky's upside-down tomato cage and also from a "Tomato Angel" who has been leaving them at our front door. There is squash, and it's the time for watermelon and all of that other good stuff.

School time: Better enjoy it -- time flies. School starts soon. We could barely get through the school supplies aisles at the store because of the shoppers.

Post office: Thank you to Elizabeth Pickett for "shaping up" the bulletin board in the foyer at the post office. It takes an artist. Did you catch the picture there of Virginia Theerman with her softball team? And Donald Beach with his baseball team? The current column (e-mail) is always posted there too.

Birthday greetings to Mark Leigh tomorrow and to Claire Affinito next Wednesday. Congratulations to Billy and Pat Rutter, whose anniversary is Saturday. We wish you all many more.

Thought for the Day: "The problem with the gene pool is that there is no lifeguard."
