Lucketts
Ice cream extravaganza, volunteers, preschool and child care, and a proud pooch
By Sally Tilson
Ice cream extravaganza: The Lucketts Elementary School PTA and a lot of volunteers hand-churned the astonishing amount of 350 gallons of ice cream between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 9. This ice cream will be sold at the Lucketts Fair on Aug. 23-24. Don’t miss out on it. There are quarts available. Contact Mary Waldron at waldronm@earthlink.net to find out what flavors are available to order. The cost is $8 per quart. This major fundraising effort by the PTA involves picking and preparing fruit for the various flavors and making the mixes, as well as the actual churning.
Fair volunteers: Volunteers are always needed for the fair. Community involvement is necessary to make the fair the success it has been in the past. Call the community center, 703-771-5281, to find out how you can help.
Preschool: It’s hard to believe summer is nearly over and school will begin soon. Call the center to find out if space is still available for preschoolers. Our preschool is very popular. The teachers are outstanding, and the program is creative. And don’t forget about the community center childcare program. Call to learn more about it.
Proud Pooch: The third annual Proud Pooch Dog Show will be Saturday, Sept. 13, 10 a.m.-noon. Bring your dog and show him or her off. There are prizes for the biggest, the smallest, the one with the best tricks, and lots more.
Sara Forbes celebrates: Sara Forbes celebrated her 10th birthday this month. Sara will be in the fifth grade at Lucketts Elementary School this fall.
