A 16-year-old girl from Waterford was charged with driving under the influence after a single-vehicle crash Aug. 12 left her 19-year-old male passenger in critical condition.

The girl was driving a 2001 Jeep Cherokee toward U.S. 15 on Montresor Road near Garriland Drive about 11 a.m. went she lost control and went off the road. The vehicle rolled several times before stopping, Loudoun County Sheriff's Office spokesman Kraig Troxell said.

Both teens were airlifted to Inova Fairfax Hospital. The girl, whose name isn't being released because she is a juvenile, was treated and released. The man, also from Waterford, remains hospitalized in critical condition, Troxell said.

A preliminary investigation found that when the vehicle was speeding and when it left the road, the driver over-corrected and lost control, causing the vehicle to roll several times into a field, Troxell said.
