Basso commits to WVU

Stone Bridge right-handed starting pitcher Tyler Basso announced today that he has committed to play baseball for the West Virginia University Mountaineers of the Big East Conference.

Basso, a third baseman when not toiling on the mound, is 5-1 with a 0.92 ERA on the current season, walking only four batters while striking out 49 in 38 innings. He is holding opponents to a .147 batting average.

Bulldog coach Sam Plank, a WVU alum, said in a press release, "Tyler is having an amazing season thus far and I am glad to see that his hard work has paid off. He will be a great asset to the West Virginia University baseball team. It makes me proud to think about one of my guys playing for my alma mater."

Basso echoed his high school coach's sentiments.

"Playing for WVU has been my goal for a long time," he said. "I'm excited to get the opportunity to become a Mountaineer and play for coach [Greg] Van Zant."
