Panther baseball hold grip on first
With Potomac Falls a mere half-game in front of second-place Broad Run going into Wednesday evening, the importance of each Dulles District game becomes heightened.Jacob Kline delivered a heightened performance at Heritage, striking out seven in a four-hit complete game for the Panthers.
Potomac Falls improved to 6-1 in the district and 8-3 overall. Heritage slipped to 4-4 and 5-8.
The Panthers got the offense going in the first inning when 2007 Dulles Player of the Year Aaron Sweger singled in one run and scored another on Michael Spring's single. Sweger finished with three hits and two RBIs, while Spring had two hits and two batted in.
Potomac Falls' balanced offense added single runs in the third and seventh, and pairs of runs in the fifth and sixth, to complete the scoring.
Heritage mounted a rally in the fourth when Trey Reed doubled and Andrew Zarobila roped a single with two outs. Panther left fielder Eric Dimsey nailed Reed at the plate to keep the score 3-0.
Kline punched out six Heritage hitters in the final three innings.
For the Pride, Zarobila was charged with six earned runs in six innings, taking the loss. Heritage's defense committed four errors behind him.
Heritage leadoff man Brenton Peters contributed a hit and a stolen base to the effort.
The Panthers, last year's Dulles District tournament champion, have seven games left before tournament play begins.
