Mallisham resigns from Heritage basketball post
Mark Mallisham has resigned as head coach of the Heritage High School boys' basketball program after leading the Pride through its first six years of competition."It was a tough decision, to walk away from the fruits of labor," he said.
Mallisham, who has led Heritage to Dulles District regular season titles in each of the past three seasons, has accepted the same position at Forest Park High School in Woodbridge.
A resident of Manassas, Mallisham cited the opportunity to drastically reduce his commute as the primary motivation behind his move.
He also mentioned the desire to spend more time with his three children, aged 10, 5 and 1.
"I'm proud that we've established a program with a winning tradition," said Mallisham of his experience with the Pride.
"I don't think I've left a legacy,” Mallisham continued. “It's never been about Mark Mallisham. It's been about the administrative staff and the coaching staff and the great players that have come through Heritage."
Mallisham spoke of his new school in the Group AAA Cardinal District of the Northwest Region.
"It's like the ACC of basketball in this state," he said, rattling off perennial powers Gar-Field and Potomac. "It'll be the challenge of playing against some of the best teams in the state."
