Stats and DAAR Golfs for Charities
The purpose of this blog entry is two-fold. It's the middle of August 2008, so let me first give you a glimpse of what happened in Loudoun County in July. Last month between July 1 and July 31st saw 547 homes sold in Loudoun County. That's more sold in the month of July since 2005 (the beginning of the downslide). Yes, 75 of those were foreclosures, and only 23 were Short Sales. That means that roughly 18% of homes sold were Distressed Properties. However, 167 homes sold in less than 30 days (31%), even though the counties overall average "DOMP" was 109 days. For whatever reason that these homes sold, they were (as many of us in the business like to say) "priced right."
Secondly...may I have your attention for a moment? The Economy. Even though for those with resources I (along with Donald Trump and many others) maintain that right now really is a great time to buy homes, more people are living paycheck by paycheck, having to skip payments on mortgages, credit cards, utilities today than has been seen in, well, a very long time. I know for a fact that there are others seemingly magical in their timing that aren't dealing with these same realities. However, and as I've said before, even in the worst, downtrodden situations that we might see, experience or know of here in this county, nothing will ever come close to living conditions in...let's just say a few other places on this planet. However, we can do something about this corner of our world. That being said, I would like to provide a public announcement made a few weeks ago.
For the seventeenth consecutive year, the Dulles Area Association of REALTORS® will sponsor a charity auction and dinner to raise funds and help local charities in Loudoun County. However, to make this not only possible but even better than last year, DAAR needs more sponsors and donors.
Last year, more than $39,000 was raised and donated to local shelter-based charities. Rebuilding Together/Christmas in April, Good Shepherd Alliance, Loudoun Abused Women's Shelter-Children's Services, Loudoun Cares, Loudoun Families for Children, Volunteers of American Emergency Shelter, and Volunteers of America-Transitional Housing Shelter received 100% of the proceeds from last year's event.
DAAR's Community Service Committee, chaired by Sue Puleo of Prudential Carruthers Real Estate in Hamilton, VA, is seeking sponsorships and/or donations of items ($100 value or more) from area businesses for the silent auction, which takes place on Friday, October 24th from 6:00pm - 11:00pm at River Creek Country Club in Leesburg.
To donate an item, learn about sponsorship opportunities, or purchase tickets to the event, contact Kathleen Mellott, Director of Member Services at 703/777-2468, kmellott@dullesarea.com
So, as you can see, this blog entry could have been actually split up into 2 different entries. I felt that mixing the numbers with an announcement of a worthy cause should give you some hope and perhaps incentive to donate an item. We will get through this time in History. But, as the well-worn saying goes, "Rome wasn't built in a day."
