Is it the Water or Does Loudoun County Public Schools Produce Winners?
For years, I’ve blamed the water in Loudoun County for our birth-rate, which is 50 percent above the rest of the Commonwealth. But as I look at our academic and athletic accomplishments, I’ve reached the conclusion, that since critics are always saying that public education ‘dumbs down’ students and promotes “mediocrity over excellence” that it must be the water that has produced the results we’re seeing. NO, the success of our schools is due to both the staff and students that seek excellence in every endeavor. Here are just a few examples:
Earlier this year, one of our Dominion High School and Science Academy students was awarded first place in the Medicine and Health Science category at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair held in May in Reno, Nev.Yesterday, Loudoun County High School became the first high school to win three consecutive AA volleyball championships and Loudoun Valley High School won the AAA championship. In football, defending AA Champion, Broad Run High School, along Park View High School won their regional semi-finals. And in the AAA arena, Stone Bridge avenged their only loss ever in the Liberty Conference, by winning their regional semi-final.In Cheer, Briar Woods High School placed first in the AA State competition.I’m sure there are other accomplishments, but none more are important to parents than seeing their students attain knowledge and skill they will possess for a lifetime.
